Chapter 1 - The first Encounter (GoT/Hobbit)
Chapter 2 - Arrival in Winterfell (GoT/Hobbit)

Another arrow was set loose and whizzed through the air, embedding itself right in the bull’s eye of the target, just like several other arrows before.

An impressed whistle beside Kili made him lowering his bow and turn around to Fili who was standing a few steps away from him.

“I’m amazed, little brother, you’ve become quite good with the bow! Did your older brothers teach you or was it perhaps your uncle Thorin?”, the blond said with a smile.

“Thanks!” Kili beamed proudly. “Nah, Robb and Jon would just keep laughing at me every time I missed the target, as they did with Bran. I almost gave up in frustration until Thorin offered to teach me.”

“I see, he did a very good job indeed. I've noticed you even adopted his grumpy expression when you’re concentrating.”

“Hey! I do not look like a grumpy old bear that has just been woken from his winter sleep!” He folded his arms in front of his chest and pulled a face, mimicking his uncle’s so familiar expression. He almost looked like a younger version of Thorin. Fili had a hard time suppressing his laughter as he watched a certain person that Kili hadn’t noticed yet nearing them.

Grumpy old bear? What are you boys up to?” A third voice asked suddenly from behind Kili, making the brunette jump in surprise.

“Uncle Thorin! H-how long have you been standing there?” He asked nervously with quick a side glare at a now chuckling Fili.

“Kili, I hope you’re not planning to go on a bear hunt on your own. You know how dangerous they can be.” Thorin’s voice was serious as most of the time the elder spoke, though a hint of worry was shining through.

“You don’t have to worry, uncle. I was just showing Fee my bow skills, were weren’t planning to do anything reckless.” Kili quickly assured his uncle. Furrowing his brow, Thorin gave them both a scrutinizing look before he eventually nodded, allowing a smile to form in his face.

“He sounds so innocent but you would not believe all the shenanigans this rascal has been up to when he was a child.” Thorin spoke to Fili, nodding in Kili’s direction which the brunette responded to with a protesting snort. “More often than not his actions are reckless and not thought through, I’m actually still waiting for him to mature.” He paused for a moment before he continued. “But you’re the older, more sensible one and his best friend, Fili, so I trust you to keep an eye on him when you can.”

“Hey, don’t talk like I’m not here. Also, I’m not a little child anymore!” An annoyed Kili pouted.

“Of course, Kili is like a little brother to me. How could I not?”

The two were interrupted when Kili grabbed Fili’s arm. “Oh no, there comes Theon! Come on, Fee, let’s go!” He tried to pull the older away but they were stopped by Thorin.

“Wait, Kili. This might be important.”
They watched the young man
who approached them in a swift pace. Theon’s features were serious, his posture rigid as always when Fili had seen him. Coming to a halt in front of the small group he addressed the two Starks.

“Robb sent me to fetch you, important matters emerged which he needs to talk about.”, his eyes wandered between Kili and Thorin, not once stopping at Fili while he spoke.

“Did something happen?” Kili asked worriedly, his annoyance seemingly forgotten for the moment. He took a step forward as to follow Theon but then stopped, looking back unsure to his friend.

“What about Fee?”

“Just go, Kee. I’ll be fine.”

“I’ll be right back.” Kili nodded, then followed after his uncle

Fili watched him go, then he noticed Theon was still standing there, this time mustering him with an evaluating glance. Though before the blond could say anything the other turned and left without another word.

---

Robb was standing alone at a table in the dining room when they entered, he looked up from something he’d been reading, his expression immediately intensified Kili’s feeling that something wasn’t right. He hadn’t seen his older brother this serious since the incident where their younger brother Bran had fallen from the old tower while climbing and nearly died.

“A raven from King’s Landing arrived with a message. It’s from Sansa.” Robb spoke and now Kili noticed the letter that was lying on the table.

“What does it say? Is she alright?” Was the question both, uncle and nephew, thought but the latter voiced aloud.

“Robert Baratheon is dead. Joffrey is the new king and he put our father in chains for treason.”

“What??” Kili gasped in shock, at the same time he felt Thorin go rigid at his side. Their uncle’s voice was low and growling with anger when he spoke.

“What are they accusing my brother of?”

“It says he tried to murder the rightful heir to the throne and seize the throne for himself. I’ve been summoned to King’s Landing to swear fealty to the new king.”

“They’re lying! Father would never do such a thing!”, Kili burst out, “You’re not about to go and kiss Joffrey’s ass, are you Robb!”

“What have you decided to do?” Thorin asked, cutting the younger’s angry outburst.

“Well, his grace summons me to King’s Landing, so I’ll go to King’s Landing. But not alone. I sent Maester Luwin to call the banners, we are going to free father and our sisters.”
And just as to underline his words, the croaking of ravens arose as a storm of innumerable black feathered birds was set free. Kili swallowed at the sight of hundreds of black wings darkening the sky when he looked through the window.

It was so surreal and Kili wished this was all nothing more than a dream.

I borrowed a few elements and lines in the last part with Robb from the TV series in this scene: www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9jjjM…

Oh my gosh, this chapter was so difficult… I honestly did not know what to write.
I also have the feeling it’s getting a bit repetitive with the way the characters act, somehow every chapter Kili ends up as the one who’s being teased (in a friendly way though!). ^^’

About the chapter’s contents:

This chapter takes place about a few days after Fili arrived in Winterfell.

In the last chapter I forgot to mention how old Fili and Kili are in this part of the story, which I will do this time. But first I have to explain something: I stumbled upon a problem when I researched the ages of the GameOfThrones characters (should have done that sooner). For this story I wanted Fili being a few years older than Kili (like in the Hobbit movies) but still a little younger than Robb, the oldest of the Stark children, while Kili being the second oldest. Though since Robb is only 16 in the TV show (younger than I had assumed) and the next younger sibling is 13 years old (Sansa) this would not work out with the 4 years of age difference I had put between Fili and Kili. This is why I changed their ages a bit.

So for this story I imagine Robb being about 18 years old, Fili 17 and Kili 15 (Fili being almost 3 years older than Kili). The other Stark children would stay like in the TV show - Sansa 13, Bran 10 and Rickon 6.

Jon Snow and Theon Greyjoy are both at the same age as Robb in the TV show, so they are here 18 as well.

About Thorin:

I was thinking a while about how to depict Thorin here. Since this story takes place in a very different world than that of The Hobbit and therefore this ‘GameofThrones-Thorin’ here has not lived through the same tragedies than the ‘MiddleEarth-Thorin’ (which made Thorin this grumpy, angry, burdened man that he is in The Hobbit). However, Thorin is still Kili’s unlce here so he is a member of the Stark family and will have suffered a different kind of tragedy in his family.
A little background info for those who haven’t watched or read GameOfThrones: Lord Rickard Stark, the former head of the family (in this story Thorin’s father) and his eldest son Brandon Stark were burned alive on the orders of Mad King Aerys Targaryen. While their sister Lianna Stark was abducted by Rhaegar Targaryen and died.
And then there's also what happened to Bran recently in this storyline (his fall from the broken tower) which, as is later revealed, was not an accident but an attempt by Jamie Lannister to kill the boy.

So I decided to keep Thorin’s character mostly like he is in The Hobbit, though perhaps slightly less serious and
smiling a bit more often. :) Obviously he is no king or leader here so he does not have to act like one. He’s just an uncle who is concerned about his family in a time where Winter Is Coming.

About Theon: I had the idea that Theon doesn’t like Fili because he’s a Lannister. There had been a clash between their two families in the near past. (The occasion during the Greyjoy Rebellion when Lannisport was attacked by the ships of House Greyjoy. As the Greyjoys lost the rebellion, Theon, when he was a little boy, was sent to the Starks as some kind of a hostage and raised with the other Stark children.)
Maybe he’s also a little bit jealous of Fili and Kili’s strong bond of friendship and because Fili is so well accepted and treated like family by the Starks even though he’s rarely there.

So, and after all this babbling,
I hope you could enjoy this. Thank you for taking a look! C:
